Renamed from the Texas State Historical Survey Committee, per Tips’ own 1973 letter [ev-0041], around the time he was serving in state historical preservation leadership; Tips was an early appointee to the predecessor committee under Governor Allan Shivers, and later served as the organization’s second president [ev-0041]. The commission administers the marker program that placed the Three Rivers Glass Factory marker in 1973, working in cooperation with local bodies such as the Live Oak County Historical Survey Committee.
